				<description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;The ten-second version:&lt;/strong&gt; start the engine (or plug in the shore charger). Set your multimeter to DC volts — the 200 V range if it isn&amp;rsquo;t auto-ranging — and touch the red probe to the metal where the controller&amp;rsquo;s thick red &lt;strong&gt;B+&lt;/strong&gt; wire bolts on, and the black probe to where the thick black &lt;strong&gt;B−&lt;/strong&gt; wire bolts on (don&amp;rsquo;t let a probe bridge the two). &lt;strong&gt;29 V or more:&lt;/strong&gt; the controller isn&amp;rsquo;t broken — it&amp;rsquo;s shutting itself down because your batteries on charge are at the very top of what it can take. The rest of this note explains why and what to do about it. &lt;strong&gt;Well under 29 V — say 27 V — and the winch still won&amp;rsquo;t go:&lt;/strong&gt; it&amp;rsquo;s something else; skip to &lt;em&gt;If it isn&amp;rsquo;t this&lt;/em&gt; at the bottom.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
